Plans to Restore and Rebuild Schools Affected by Palisades Fire in The Los Angeles Unified School District approved

On June 3, 2025, the Los Angeles Unified School District board approved a proposal to move forward with rebuilding and restoring two elementary schools and one high school in Pacific Palisades, which were partially or completely destroyed in the January 2025 Palisades Fire. Marquez Charter Elementary was a total loss, and Palisades Charter High School experienced 75% damage, according to board documents.

This decision marks a critical step in restoring normalcy for students and families, with school board member Nick Melvoin, representing the fire-ravaged area, expressing optimism that the rebuilt schools will contribute to a stronger, revitalized community. The rebuilding effort is seen as a beacon of hope, addressing the educational needs of the area while signaling a commitment to long-term recovery. Despite concerns about some residents not returning, the initiative reflects confidence in the community’s ability to rebound, with plans to accommodate families with young children who are expected to repopulate the area.
