History of the Palisades

History

Pacific Palisades, nestled between Santa Monica and Malibu, has a rich history rooted in natural beauty, spirituality, and cultural evolution. Originally inhabited by the Tongva people, the area was a thriving Indigenous hub due to its coastal resources and mild climate. During the Spanish and Mexican eras, it became part of Rancho Boca de Santa Monica, a large land grant used for cattle ranching.

In 1921, the Methodist Church founded Pacific Palisades as a spiritual retreat. Led by Reverend Charles H. Scott, the community was envisioned as a serene haven where residents could live harmoniously with nature. This vision shaped its development, with an emphasis on quiet streets, parks, and ocean views. Over time, the area grew into a magnet for artists, intellectuals, and Hollywood elites seeking a tranquil yet glamorous lifestyle.
